June 12, 2017 5:02 am CDT

At EVE, we know that there is a new wave of business on the web. The correlation between Millennials and Gen-Zers having success in entrepreneurial ventures has been increasing in recent stats. Statistics from the US Census Bureau revealed a record-breaking 5,481,437 new businesses were started in 2023. In fact, 48% of Gen-Zers and 44% of Millennials have reported having a side hustle, and numbers show that "an overwhelming 71% are somewhat/very interested in exploring entrepreneurship," as stated in the JustWorks article, "Why Are Millennials & Gen Z More Likely to Start a Business?".

Why is such a high percentage of Millennials and Gen-Zers interested in starting their own businesses? According to the article, 18-34 year olds are the most worried about being laid-off, encouraging them to want to be their own bosses and have more control. Other reasons listed include disillusionment in the traditional workforce, a desire for more flexibility in their daily lives, and discovering opportunities to make a difference in the world.

EVE’s founder, Eve Eden, who is a Millennial herself, was pleased to read this article as she too navigates the successes and challenges of being an entrepreneur. In her experience, creating a business plan and sticking to your vision, no matter the financial barriers or other difficulties that arise, is the key to making it work. Her motto of becoming an entrepreneur: ”Along the way there are hurdles - figure out where something's gone wrong, change it, and stay the course".

That drive and urgency to keep moving forward is backed up by the unique qualities of Millennials and Gen-Zers listed in the Forbes article, "The Rise Of Young Entrepreneurs: How Millennials And Gen-Z Are Shaping The Business Landscape". It states, "they often exhibit traits such as adaptability, digital fluency and a desire for purpose-driven work. They prioritize innovation, social impact and work-life balance. These next-generation innovators are typically driven by a vision to create meaningful change and are unafraid to challenge the status quo."
