December 11, 2017 6:00 am CDT

Having an online presence that goes mobile has become one of the key aspects of getting your business out there. With the exponentially increasing spread of mobile device usage, not investing in going mobile will lead to a larger loss over time. Businesses with the strongest mobile strategies understand its importance and potential to increase sales, improve customer engagement and increase customer loyalty.

Two of the largest factors in mobile business are websites that are mobile-friendly (responsive design) and mobile apps. It is predicted that  in 2017, there will be 268 million mobile apps downloaded, and those downloads will translate to $77 billion dollars in revenue for businesses.

With the possibility of including real time perks like location based services or augmented reality in an app, it can be a strong mobile strategy that improves customer engagement and increases sales. Small businesses are quickly picking up on this development: in 2017, it is said that more than 50% of small businesses are looking to create a mobile app.

Mobile-friendly websites are arguably even more pressing, simply because of the occurrence of web searches. When people search on mobile, it tends to lead to action:

92% of people who searched on their phone made a related purchase

88% of consumers who make a search on a mobile device call or go to that business within 24 hours

90% of smartphone owners research purchasing decisions in store

Not only is simply having a mobile strategy critical, it is important that it is a well-designed one. 83% of mobile users say that a seamless experience across all devices is very important. An app or mobile site must be easy to navigate, informative of things like a list of products and prices, opening hours etc, but also visually appealing. 57% of users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly-designed mobile site.
