Social Media Dependent?

Solely relying on a social media presence vs. having your own website limits your ability to create optimized content, build relevant links, or create a brand that customers would want to purchase from. You also miss out on giving your business increased visibility, like appearing in search engines, or gaining the right queries paying customers are using to find businesses like yours.

Creating an optimized website provides the advantage of using the exact phrases your customers would use to search for your website, which is what helps you to gain visibility.

EVE guides clients every step in handling social media platforms by explaining all of the advantages of having your own website and supplementing with activity on social media venues. This is a great way to drive traffic to your website.

Only using social media pigeonholes your business from greater communication across the website. For instance, if you have a business page on Facebook, the text you input cannot be shared outside of the Facebook network. Also, you are not allowed to copy and paste the post either. This is a major disadvantage.

Since you do not own social media platforms, they may not carry longevity and the assurance of being around forever. When you own your website, you have the freedom of knowing you have the control of how long your web presence will last. You also have full control of your content and customer base.

EVE spotted an article that makes an excellent comparison about your business being at the mercy of someone else. Conversionstrategies.net article “Website vs Social Media: Benefits of Social Media for Small Business,” compared the pros and cons of social media platforms over having your own website.

“If you setup shop solely on one or more social platforms, your business is ultimately at the mercy of those platforms. They can make changes whenever they want and you don’t have a voice, even if it impacts your business. If that platform gets acquired and changed or shut down, you may no longer be able to reach your customers.” EVE found the comparisons and viewpoints from the article to be valid.

EVE founder, Eve Eden states that social media platforms are to be used as a crutch to your business website. “Social media is a good supplement to drive traffic to your main website but it should not be the only way to promote your business,” Eden said.

During the consulting phase, EVE explains the limitations similar to the ones covered in the article. Having your own website is an advantage because it provides a more professional presence, empowers you with full control of your services and customer base.

It is important to keep in mind that you do not have ownership over social media pages but you do own your website. You will continuously have EVE working with you and your vision, giving you the most elevated virtual experience.
